CURRENT MINISTRY DETAIL

Pastor, Christ Chapel of Bandera, Texas, 7/08 to present.

Founder and President, Prophet’s Heart Ministries, San Antonio, Texas, 2/96 to present.

Created 501(c)(3) non-profit ministry dedicated to “Making Disciples for God’s Pleasure.”  Primarily ministering as an itinerant preacher in local churches, citywide worship gatherings, and Bible studies.  Traveling speaker for Christian retreats, conferences, camps, and leadership training seminars.  Have enjoyed hundreds of preaching opportunities producing Kingdom fruit of thousands of commitments and re-commitments to Christ.

Conceived and implemented “Ekklasia”, PHM’s home-based worship and discipleship ministries for families from 2003-2007 by serving as pastor to a congregation that met in our house.  Responsible for planning and leading weekly Sunday morning worship gatherings serving as both music leader and preacher/teacher.  Celebrated communion, performed baptisms, and conducted funerals.  Created and led weekly Wednesday intensive discipleship course characterized by voluntary accountability, teaching, prayer, and informed discussion based on an original curriculum of daily Bible reading (One Year Plan), scripture memory, and other Christian books.  Developed strong sense of community with frequent fellowships and occasional retreats.

Planned, raised financial support, and implemented the “Big World Mission 2003” trip to Hungary, Romania, and Greece.  Recruited, discipled, and trained a team of students and adults from Alamo City Christian Fellowship to do construction and renovation work at the Heart to Heart Mission and Orphanage as well as at a local Baptist church in Petrosani, Romania.  Preached and provided ministry of encouragement and fellowship to local churches in Petrosani and surrounding villages.  Concluded trip with educational tour of Biblical sites in Greece.

Helped The Soul Café (a Gen X evangelistic outreach ministry of Trinity Baptist and First Baptist Church, Kerrville, Texas) transition from ministry to an independent local church in 1999.  The ministry experienced phenomenal growth with over 70 new Christians within just a few months but these new believers were not connecting to existing local churches.  So the decision was made to make The Soul Café into a church.  Working with a team of pastors, served as the Community Pastor responsible to research and write a Statement of Beliefs for The Soul Café, preach periodically, recruit and train lay leaders for various ministries, create a basic philosophy and structured plan for a cell group ministry, and to create and establish new members classes.  Continue to serve as itinerant preacher and consultant for The Soul Café to this day.

PERSONAL STATEMENT

Blessed with Christian parents and regular church attendance, the seed of the Gospel was sown and sprouted early in my life.  I believed Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the living God in 1974 and was baptized in Trinity Baptist Church, San Antonio, TX.

In the Summer of 1984, on a mission trip to Eastern Europe, I encountered the persecuted Church and Christians who either knew Jesus in a way that I did not or knew another Jesus altogether.  Their total and sacrificial abandonment in following Jesus stood in stark contrast to the lukewarm mediocrity so common in many American churches.  This provoked serious and prayerful self-examination of my own life resulting in a renewed and deeper level of commitment to be a passionate disciple of Jesus.  While in Budapest, Hungary, seeking the Lord’s will for my life, God revealed to me that His calling for me was to strive for revival in the church in America and to make new disciples.  It was at that time the Lord implanted within me the heart of a prophet – one used by God to call His people back to Himself.

In 24 years of ministry, I have developed a philosophy of ministry that is informed by the Bible, the Holy Spirit, formal education, and experience.  I have been enriched by serving on the staffs of a wide range of diverse congregations: metropolitan mega churches, small town churches, and even a home church; churches with worship styles that were traditional, blended, and contemporary; churches that were vibrant, others that were in a slumber.  As an itinerant preacher speaking to a spectrum of crowds from thousands to just a handful, I have experienced even greater diversity of worship and church expression.  All of these have their own unique strengths and weaknesses, assets and liabilities, with elements that please and others that displease God.  I am still persuaded that the key to advancing the Kingdom in our world today is the local church – revived.  Authentic, loving, vibrant, dynamic, and growing congregations are indisputable evidence that Jesus Christ is Lord.  To that end I have devoted my life and continue to strive to serve as a catalyst for revival among the people of God.
